"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet our heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
Matt 6:26
I was privileged recently to observe the feeding of a small group of little birds living in a tree next to our front porch. I was not able to see the nest, but I heard the sounds as the mother evacuated the tree of any danger. What a shrill it was. It quickly caught my attention as well as all other living creatures anywhere near. Even my dog took notice.
I have never seen a mother bird feed her young. Carefully and methodically she gets the food and then quickly and cautiously transfers it from her mouth to the mouths of her young. All the while she is alert and ready to defend should the need arise.
I did not get to see the baby birds entirely, and dared not disturb them but I could hear them chirping softly and see their fuzzy heads raise up to take the food from their mother.
This feeding event is something that happens every day. But not every day does the Holy Spirit come along side of me to give me an object lesson. He breezed in to point out a few things to me that I would have otherwise missed.
Observing the mother bird I could not help but think about the way God has set up the animal kingdom. Often He parallels these things for our spiritual understanding. This mother bird was so caring, cautious, and even courageous in her mission to take care of what belonged to her. Parental instinct just operates that way not only in the animal world but among us as well. At least good parenting operates this way.
The parent takes care of the young until they are able to do so on their own. They see it as their role and responsibility and carry out the job well. But Who cares for them? Look at Matthew 6:26 for a moment. Our heavenly Father feeds them. He Who created them cares for their needs. Why, because He is their parental figure. And even more moving than that is the fact that He sincerely cares.
The Word of God says that not one sparrow falls from the sky without Him knowing it. Doesnt it seem like quite a job, keeping track of all those sparrows? Well it may be for someone else but it is not for God.
Then comes the glaring question "Are not you worth more than they?" Have you ever had a time of great anxiety in your life where it seemed everywhere you turned there was a problem with no good solution? Perhaps it was a job situation, a health issue, a retirement plan. Whatever the case it brought great worry to your life as you tried to figure a way to work something out.
Now think about these baby birds for a moment. Their greatest need is hunger and protection against prey. Who can they rely on for that? No one but their mother. If she does not provide they will not survive. They are totally dependent upon her.
Back to us, Whom are we depending on? Is it our spouses, our church, our friends, or ourselves? If so, we are in for a very rude awakening. None of those people can fill the hunger pangs of life that we so often feel within. Why? Because we do not belong to them. They do not have parental rights over us, nor do they have paternal instinct. BUT GOD DOES. He has the plan. He holds the safety net. He provides the sustenance. Why? Because He loves us.
He is the God of all things. He is the All Powerful God, The Mighty One, King of King, Lord of Lords. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning And End! So when worries, fears, and doubts come your way ask yourself this very important question
"Whose do I think I am?" It will change your view and bring peace where there is disruption, comfort from pain, faith where there is doubt, security were there is fear.
Not one single thing is going to happen in your life that Your Heavenly Father does not already know about. He made a plan and provision for it long before the foundation of this world. He is Able to meet all your needs whether great or small and desires to do just that. Will you depend on Him? Will you open yourself up to receive that which He desires to give you? Will you accept His provisions knowing that He gives His children only His very best? Will you let Him be the Abba, Father in your life? The "Papa, Papa God"? That is Who He wants to be and it is what we need.
"Whose do I think I am?" I am a blood bought, born again, Holy Ghost filled child of the King!! It does not get much better than that!!! If you have received Jesus Christ as Your Savior than you belong to Him too. Claim your place in His household
and watch as the provisions arrive!!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Papa God we worship and adore You. We are so thankful that You have created us for Your good pleasure. We are so in awe of the way You care for each one of our needs. We are so blessed to belong to You. We need You in our lives Father. We are lacking and pray that You will provide for our needs. Your Word promised it and history bears it out as true. You are Faithful to Your own. So we thank You in advance for what You have and will do for us. We love You Father more than words can say.
I pray for that one right now who is struggling. Perhaps they feel danger and fear of falling victim to the adversary. I ask that Your protection will surround them and bring peace. And for those who need something fresh in their lives I ask You to bring them fresh and irresistible food from Your table. Feed them and strengthen them once again.
Help us to understand that we are Yours and You will give us only what is best for us. Give us hearts to receive and a mind to believe.
In Jesus Name!
Amen! Amen!
